Christmas hats are almost universally worn during the winter months in Britain. They were invented in 1856 by the Earl of Christmas, who, whilst playing bridge one evening realised his head was cold.
The clever thing whipped up an impromptu hat out of his paper napkin and the popular headpiece was born.
As you can see from this picture the christmas, or party, hat, is now a popular interior head warmer during the winter months...
